Writers often wait for inspiration. The problem? Inspiration is unreliable.

A few months ago, I was struggling with consistency. Some days I’d write 1,000 words. Other days nothing.

Then I tested a simple habit: 20 minutes of writing. Every day. No excuses.

Not 2 hours. Not a whole morning. Just 20 minutes.

Here’s what happened:

Momentum built up. Even on days I didn’t feel like writing, I told myself, “It’s just 20 minutes.” But once I started, I often kept going.

Perfectionism disappeared. With a small time box, there’s no pressure to write perfectly. The goal is progress, not polish.

Consistency became automatic. Within weeks, writing daily felt as natural as brushing my teeth.

Output doubled. Because 20 minutes every day adds up faster than waiting for big bursts of inspiration.

How you can try it:

1. Block 20 minutes on your calendar.

2. Write without editing.

3. Stop when the timer rings even if you’re in the middle of a sentence.

4. Repeat tomorrow.

It’s simple. It’s not glamorous. But if you want to write more, consistently this habit works.
